Goaltender Equipment Requirements

The safety of our players is of the utmost importance to us. After seeing a number of incidents in the 2022-2023 season involving goaltenders being injured by shots to the throat, beginning with the 2023-2024 season, the FYRA Board of Directors are implementing a piece of mandatory goaltender equipment. FYRA goaltenders aged U12 and above are required to wear a dangler (or 'throat guard') for practices, development clinics, and games. This hard plastic attachment to their mask will ensure our goaltenders are protected to their best of their abilities.

Coaches will be mandated, like other pieces of critical equipment (ringette cage, neck guard, gloves, skates, etc.), to ensure their goaltenders are wearing a dangler before engaging in team activities.
